All Terrain Wheelchairs has just celebrated its 10th Anniversary. The company was established by Richard Kusnierz who was assisted by his father who was an experienced engineer. The company is based in Telford, Shropshire which is an ideal location as it enables them to reach the whole of the UK from the Midlands.
Richard had been working in the industry since 1999, and as soon as he saw the range of All Terrain Wheelchairs he knew it was a great product, so when the opportunity arose to take on the sole distribution in the UK he jumped at the chance as he explains. “I knew there was a niche in the market for such a unique product and that people would be interested in such a bespoke solution. From my experience in the mobility industry I had seen people’s expectations & desires change with one of the main things people wanting being the ability to access the great outdoors in a powerchair that was equally at home travelling across fields, or being used in a domestic environment. I knew the powerchairs from All Terrain Wheelchairs ticked all these boxes”.
As soon as an agreement had been reached with Magic Mobility, who manufacture the powerchairs in Australia, Richard set about establishing the business. “It was hard going at times, but with the help and support of my family and friends and the team at Magic Mobility the business slowly started to grow here in the UK” continued Richard.
Today, 10 years down the line, All Terrain Wheelchairs prides itself on offering a level of personal service that is often missing from other manufacturers. They pride themselves on their after sales service, offering speedy turnaround on responding to new enquiries and answering queries from existing customers. The company also aims to carryout servicing within 24hrs when possible. This level of customer service has been commented on by customers, many of whom have become friends over the years. One such customer is Adaptive Surfing World Champion Bruno Hanson who said: “From my initial enquiry, they were incredibly prompt in getting back to me and that was a major factor in my decision to look at their chairs as opposed to other manufacturers”.
It is this kind of customer service which has helped Richard grow the business to its current position as one of the leading UK suppliers of powerchairs that can tackle any terrain. “Being a smaller / family run business, myself and the rest of the team remain very close to our clients, often building relationships with them & their families. We believe in offering the right product, to suit the individual, if the product is not right, we won’t push it”.
2017 has been an exciting year for Richard and the All Terrain Wheelchairs team. “From a personal perspective, my partner Cheryl who helps run the business recently gave birth to our first child Layla which has been amazing! From a business perspective, Liz recently joined the business to cover for Cheryl while she is on maternity leave and she will be remaining with the company to help run the administrative side of the business. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Cheryl, David, Mark and Liz for all their support and our loyal customers as without them there would be no business. Here’s to the next 10 years!!.”
